The Public Petition dated 11-11-1839 initiated the establishment of Madras University. It was in for January 1840 with Mr. George Norton as its President, that the University Board was constituted. The University was organized in the model of London University. Madras University is the mother of almost all the old Universities of south India. University of Madras, state-controlled institution of higher learning located in Madras, India. One of three affiliating universities founded by the British in 1857, Madras has developed as a teaching and research institution since the 1920s. By the mid-1970s the university comprised 11 postgraduate faculties and 22 constituent colleges and was the examining and degree-granting authority for 149 affiliated colleges throughout the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a national centre for advanced research in plant pathology, mathematical physics, biophysics, and Indian philosophy. Instruction is in English and Tamil.
The prestigious 160 years old University of Madras, which is known for its long history, heritage and services to Higher Education across the state, country and globe as well. Our Department was established in 1952, by Prof. M. Santappa, first HOD, a recipient of the Shanthi Swarup Bhatnagar Award for Research in Chemical Sciences, and has also served as a Director of a National CSIR Laboratory and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras. This Department has produced three former Vice-chancellors, Educationalist, Industrialist, Bureaucrats and so on. Also, this Department has contributed more than 1000 Ph. D scholars with 3000 publications, 2000 M. Sc., M. Phil students over this period.
This conference will focus on various aspects of Physical Chemistry with specific attention to Catalysis, Nanomaterials, Quantum Dots, Sensors, Energy Conversion and Molecular Modelling involving Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. This event will provide a platform for the interaction amongst the eminent researchers from both academia and industries at international level under one roof to discuss the state of art of development in Physical Chemistry topics of current interest. It aims at exploring topics in diverse fields of Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Biotechnology. The conference will provide an overview of the current status and enlighten the future potentials of nanomaterials for physical chemistry and related fields.
